LGUs Told to Mobilize Local Disaster Councils in Time for Pepeng

As the nation braces for the onslaught of Typhoon “Pepeng”, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) today enjoined provincial governors, city and municipal mayors and punong barangays  nationwide to effectively mobilize their respective Local Disaster Coordinating Councils (LDCCs) to ensure that all necessary preparations have been made to cushion the impact of the said typhoon.

In a directive, DILG Acting Secretary Melchor P. Rosales also urged all local chief executives and other local and barangay officials to  install community-wide warnings and see to it that such warnings reach all households.

Rosales issued the directive in pursuant to the National Disaster Coordinating Council’s  directive for a “Zero Casualty During Calamities.”

He also urged local execs to take the lead in the formulation of pre-emptive evacuation measures and actions and designate evacuation centers in their respective localities complete with water supply, power, and health and sanitary facilities.

According to PAG-ASA, typhoon ‘Pepeng is forecasted to bring more rains and very strong winds in Northern Luzon once it makes a landfall and has the possibility of becoming a super typhoon.

The DILG acting secretary also enjoined local chief executives to implement extended relief assistance and other services in consideration of the effects of typhoon Ondoy, and of the potential risks of typhoon Peping, and cause the preparation of the Local Government Rehabilitation Plan and Reconstruction Plan.

At the same time, Rosales directed all DILG regional directors and field offices to provide the necessary assistance in the effective implementation of his directive.
